Brilliant plan #263

I might have stumbled on something that will keep my mind off buying new yarn for the next nine months…trying new techniques. (D’oh!)

I am considering frogging my first scarf, a Doctor-Who length garter stitch project, and reknitting it using a more sophisticated stitch. As in, anything except garter or stockinette. I was really impressed with my one-row Harlot scarf, and also the mistake rib stitch scarf, but both were Christmas presents and are gone now.

One thing I did do towards this end was subscribe to the Lion Brand online newsletter. It’s free, and every week they feature a different stitch from a stitch dictionary. They include directions on how to make up a swatch (and they show the swatch, too), so maybe after I get my hat done (or perhaps between mohair sessions, for some variety) I will take some stash yarn and a set of bamboo needles and start experimenting. Maybe I’ll make some uniform-size squares and have a sampler ready to sew up by the end of the year.

What’s your favorite stitch? Is it lovely enough to keep your mind off buying new yarn? Should I put more links in this post?
